Boston MA -- Boston-Area UUs for
Verifiable Voting (BosUUVV)
Our
interfaith letter-writing campaign kicked off on Wed. July 28 at the "Let
Justice Roll" Interfaith Witness & Voter Mobilization Worship Service
and Rally at Old South Church (United Church of Christ). Several groups are now gathering signatures
on letters to Senators John Kerry and Ted Kennedy, and Congressmen Michael
Capuano and Stephen Lynch.
Please
join our efforts, especially in the districts of Capuano and Lynch! Here are sample letters (Capuano,
Lynch, Kennedy, Kerry). Just cut and paste them into your own document,
print them, get them signed, and send them in!
If
you are doing a postcard campaign, here is the info
sheet to clip onto each clipboard.
Phone
calls and faxes are important too! Here
is a flyer. Here is the contact
info for our 4 legislators who have not yet taken action to co-sponsor
HR2239/S1980, as well as Robert Ney.
We
also are sending letters to Representative Robert Ney,
Chairman of the House Administration Committee, urging him to let HR2239 out of
his committee and to support its passage in the US House of Representatives.
Let's
capitalize on the increasing wave of news stories and public awareness of the
problems with electronic voting systems! Let's bring this legislation out of
committee and to a successful vote as soon as Congress reconvenes!
In
Boston, 80-90% of the people we approach on the street are interested in this
issue and want to sign our letters.
We
are following up on contacts we have made with Quaker meetings, United Church
of Christ and Jewish groups to do the same.
Please
contact Heleni Thayre at 617-232-8180 or heleni@UUvv.org to join
us, or for support in getting started in your own church. Please let us know if you collect letters,
how many you have collected and how you are transmitting them.
