Pass the
"Voter Confidence and Increased
Accessibility Act"
HR2239, sponsored by Rep. Rush Holt (US House of
Representatives)
S 1980, sponsored by Sen. Bob Graham (US Senate)
Oppose the "RECORD Act" S 2313
--30%
of American voters will use electronic voting machines in November, 2004
--We
need a law that requires a "voter-verified paper audit trail" (VVPAT)
from all electronic voting machines in November, 2004
--If
states can't install printers, or reconfigure the ones that are already in
their electronic voting machines, the law must require hand-marked paper
ballots that can be counted by optical scanner or by hand, to be used for
federal offices -- President/Vice President, US Senate, and US House of
Representatives.
--The Voter Confidence and Increased Accessibility Act requires VVPAT
--S1980
is not yet co-sponsored by Sen. Kennedy or Sen. Kerry
--HR2239 is co-sponsored by all MA representatives except Capuano
and Lynch
--RECORD
does NOT require VVPAT, nor use of hand-marked paper ballots -- this bill allows states to say they
can't comply with these requirements, and then they don't have to! We oppose RECORD until this loophole is
closed.
Call Congress, 1-800-839-5276,
and:
1. Ask Senators Kennedy
and Kerry to co-sponsor Sen. Bob Graham's "Voter Confidence and Increased
Accessibility Act", S 1980.
2. Ask Representatives
Capuano and Lynch to co-sponsor Rep. Rush Holt's "Voter Confidence and
Increased Accessibility Act", HR2239.
